"No, I said no!"
"You can't forbid me, dad!"
"Of course I can, I'm doing it right now!!"

Steve was sitting on the couch, his face hidden in his hands. They were having a family meeting. A family meeting that got out of hand and now Tony and Peter were standing facing each other, trying to shout louder than the other. Steve knew that this will happen sooner or later. After they found out that Peter is Spider-man it was rough. Steve was angry and worried, but Tony was just fuming. But that fight was nothing in comparison to this one.

"No, I agreed for you to be Spider-man but I won't allow you to join the Avengers!"
"I will do it, even without your permission!"
"You can't do it without my permission, I'm on the team!!"

Tony was glaring at his son. Peter was determined to join the team, but it will happen only over Tony's dead body. Peter didn't get it. The Avengers were not dealing with burglars or bank robbers, they were dealing with heavy stuff. And Peter was so not ready for that.

"Pops agreed for me to join the team!" Peter screamed. Tony flinched hearing that.
"You're taking his side?!" he shot a glare at Steve, grudge in his voice. Steve lifted his head to look at them.
"I'm not taking anyones side, I just think it would be a reasona.." he started in a tired voiced, but was cut off by Tony.
"No!" Tony yelled. He looked back at Peter.

"That's my final word on the subject, Peter. End of discussion," he said in a firm voice. At least he tried to sound like that, but his voice was shaking from the suppressed anger. Peter clenched his fists. His shoulders were shaking. Why his dad always had to treat him as a kid? He proved that he can handle crime as Spider-man, he was ready for bigger stuff. He could handle them.

"Dad.." he started, knowing that he is pushing Tony. Tony didn't let him finish, he won't tolerate his own son back talking to him.
"What part of "no" you don't get?!" he fumed.
"I'm not a kid anymore dad! I'm old enough to get married!" Peter raised again his voice.
"Then go and get married, but you won't join the team!!" Tony yelled, not thinking it through. He wasn't serious about it, but from those two options he would rather have him married than on the team.

It started again. They both were yelling at each other. Steve couldn't tell what were they yelling, all was mixed in a one incomprehensible scream. He closed his eyes in pain. He was sick of this. He bolted from the couch.

"SHUT UP!!" Steve screamed, eyeing them both. Silence at last. Both men were surprised as Steve rarely raised his voice.
"Both of you, cool off!! On the floor, 20 push-ups, now!" he commanded in a voice tone he learnt in the army. Peter, knowing better than to disobey Captain America, dropped on the floor, while Tony was still standing. He crossed his arms on his chest, glaring at Steve with a "hell no" kind of stare. Steve narrowed his eyes, making a gesture that Tony gets on the floor this instance or he will make him. After a while Tony cracked and slowly got on the floor. They both started doing push-ups. Tony quickened the pace as trying to prove Peter that he can't even do simple exercise properly and therefore can't be on the team. Peter noticed that and also quickened the pace. As a result they both finished in the same time and stood up in unison.

"Peter, leave us alone," Steve requested, his voice calmer, but still firm. Peter shot a glare at Tony, but listened to his pops. He walked out the room with heavy steps.

Steve sighed looking at Tony. The brunet's jaws were clenched.

"Tony, I.." he started, just to be cut off by Tony. Again.
"I can't believe you're against me! We are supposed to be partners, Steve!" he accused him.
"Stop yelling at me Tony, I'm trying to talk with you!" Steve shouted back at him. Tony crossed his arms again, looking at him provocatively. He was waiting.

"Tony, I understand that you don't want Peter to join the team, but.."
"Of course I don't want him to join the team, he is still a brat!!" he burst impatiently.
"Tony. One more time you will interrupt me and I swear, I will make you listen," Steve said through gritted teeth. Tony looked at him. He knew he was serious. He didn't say a word. Steve breathed deeply, trying to organize his thoughts.

"I know you're worried. I'm worried too. But, honestly Tony, we both knew that this day will come sooner or later. Who did you expect him to be in the future, having both his parent, his uncles and his aunt on a superhero team anyway? He was bound to be a hero," Steve said in a softer voice.

"I don't know, a scientist, like Bruce? I would like that, he would sit for the whole days on his ass in a lab, playing with DNA, and I would know where he is," he grunted.
"Bruce is also on the team,"
"No, Hulk is on the team. Hulk is strong. You are a super soldier. I have my armor. And what does Peter have? Spider sense? Web? A red and blue footed pajama?" he spat. Steve gave him a soft look. He couldn't blame him for being worried. Too bad that Tony was not good at expressing such feelings and either sulked or just shouted at everyone.

"You will have to trust Peter on this one, Tony."

Tony narrowed his eyes hearing that. It wasn't fair. He did trust Peter. He just couldn't bear the fact of the whole family being on the team. It was bad enough that he was worried for Steve, now he would have to be worried for his kid also. He couldn't lose them. But Steve was right. He couldn't keep Peter at home forever. Why he had to grow up?

Steve was looking at quiet Tony. He still seemed angry. After a while his face changed expression. He looked tired. Tired and worried and sad. He drifted his gaze to the side, sighing. Steve stood closer to him, knowing that Tony finally calmed down. He embraced him.

"It will be okay," he said softly.
"I want my baby back, Steve," Tony muttered into his husband's shoulder.
"He is still your baby," Steve reassured him, kissing his hair.
"… In a diaper," Tony added, making Steve grin.
"I don't think Peter would like that," he snorted. Tony sighed again.

They had another talk. A calmer one. Both Steve and Tony agreed for Peter to join the Avengers, under few conditions, like, if it will get ugly, Peter will flee no matter what, even if it meant abandoning his parents and saving himself. Peter reluctantly agreed, knowing that if this situation ever happen he would still stay. But in the end it wasn't his parents' decision. It was Fury's and the director firmly declined Peter joining the team, claiming that he is still way too young and inexperienced. Maybe in five years he will reconsider it. Peter was bitter at the decision, but he knew that either of his parents can't do anything about it. Tony had to try hard to not show Peter how happy he was about Fury's decline and fretted together with his son. Steve knew his husband better than this and just shook his head at his behavior, but didn't say a word.
