"Do you, Anthony Edward Stark.."

"Euughh.."

"Tony!"

"Yeah, Tony, that's my name! Not that whole.. lengthy.. thing!"

Some muffled chuckling filled the wedding hall. Tony smiled at the people present, and Steve shook his head disapprovingly, but the Justice of Peace guy looked the most irritated. It was the last time (and first time) he agreed to hold a ceremony for superheroes.

He tried again. "Do you, Tony Stark, take Steven Grant Rogers.."

"Woah, woah, woah," Steve interrupted with a shocked face. "Full name? What did I ever do to you?" he asked, sounding hurt.

The groom and their guests burst into laughter. Tony smiled brightly at Steve, and Steve was smiling back, even if they were screwing around during their own wedding, which in normal circumstances, was so so inappropriate. But, heck, it was their wedding.

The hall became silent, and Tony and Steve kept looking at each other, the cheeky grins dimming into something sweeter and softer and eyes shining with love. Guests nearly cooed and some girls aww'ed at the sight, and the Justice of Peace gave up, seeing that both men were certainly and truly in love.

"I pronounce you.."

He didn't finish. The whole building shook, the lights flicked until they went down completely and some of the guests started to scream in panic.Tony's eyes widen at the sudden commotion and Steve abruptly drew him closer to him, in a protective manner. Tony yelped, when he got pressed against his not-yet-officially husband, not able to move when Steve was holding him so closely.

Everything was happening too fast. Tony heard screams, saw people running in panic, and the rapid beating of Steve's heart was stressing him out even more, telling him that something very bad was happening. He turned his head slightly to the side, to look at the glass wall and see for himself.

The scenery changed. There was no sunset anymore, no calm water of the Hudson river, but a gray sky, and a swollen, murky water. Tony looked at the place in the sky, where night had been taking over, and first stars started to shine. He felt the whole sound draining away and his eyes widen in uncontrollable terror.

A wormhole.

A wormhole in the sky.

A wormhole getting bigger and bigger and Chitauri pouring out of it, hundreds, thousands, millions..

He felt that he was slipping out of Steve's embrace.

"No.." Tony choked out. "NO!" he started screaming, feeling some invisible force pulling him away from the other man. "STEVE!"

He saw Steve's terrified face, but the other man couldn't do anything, he couldn't take a hold of Tony, and he was slipping away, dragged away, and Steve started to scream too, but it was too late and Tony was being sucked back into the vortex to a place without hope, light, without air, where only death awaited..

Tony jerked up in bed, a silent scream on his lips. He was gasping and sweat was trickling down his body and he couldn't stop the trembling. Out of reflex, he placed his hands on the arc, feeling the hum of the device and seeing the light in the darkness, knowing that it all meant that he was alive..

Scared senseless, but alive.

With a shuddered breath, Tony flopped back on the bed, trying to level his breathing and stop shaking, so annoyed with his brain playing tricks on him, and even more annoyed by the tears forming in his eyes.

It was middle of the night. He was in New York. In the Avengers Tower on his floor, in his own bed.

It was six hours before Pepper would come to wake him up, and then nearly twelve hours to his and Steve's wedding.

The day he had been waiting for so long.

It wasn't like if he was having second doubts. He wanted it. So, so much.

Just.. stupid nightmares.

Tony turned around in bed, to the side where Steve slept, really needing some comfort right now. Except him, the bed was empty.

Oh, right..

Tony took his pillow and smushed his face into in, muffling a miserable whine. After a moment, he tossed his pillow aside and took Steve's one, which smelled pleasantly fresh, just like the soldier, and buried his face into it. At least he got some fraction of the comfort he was hoping for.

Tradition his ass. He was more that sure, that Pepper and Natasha would have some kind of revenge on him and Steve after they had come back from their spontaneous vacations to avoid all pre-wedding responsibilities. The two girls weren't mad, and said that everything was going smoothly during their absence. Seemed that everything was okay. Just the night before the wedding, Pepper came to them, saying something about the young couple not seeing each other twenty four hours before the wedding, which was supposed to guarantee them a long and happy life together. Neither Tony or Steve heard of such tradition before, but Steve decided for both of them, that they won't risk it. And so, Steve was spending his last night as a bachelor in his Brooklyn apartment, while Tony was left alone in the Avengers Tower.

Now, he could honestly say that it was a bad idea. A very bad idea.

Tony tried to take off his mind from the nightmare and think about something else. The thought that Rhodey was a few floors below him, on one of the guest floor was comforting. Tony would be pretty upset if his best friend couldn't make it to his wedding. And Rhodey, being an awesome best friend and best man, together with Bruce, organized him a bachelor party a few days ago, in one of the super expensive clubs, which consisted a poker night, cigars and all scotch he could drink. It was awesome enough, but then Rhodey had lead him to some tiny room, with a nice sofa and soft pillows and a curtain and wished him to enjoy the show, before he disappeared with a wink. Tony's heart started to race and he was about to claw his way out of the room, knowing that Steve would kill him for having a stripper during his bachelor party, even if he was innocent and a victim, and blame Rhodes, when the music stopped him. It was "The Star Spangled Man". Tony turned around curiously, watching as Steve stepped out on the small scene, clad in that awful material outfit he wore during the shows for the military. Tony had laughed, but Captain America was not in a mood to be messed with. One of Tony's ultimate fantasies when he was growing up, was making out with Captain America, following all his orders. It wasn't the first time when that fantasy came true, but there was something special and great about it, and Tony couldn't imagine what Rhodey did to convince Steve, but was more than happy that he had succeeded.

Steve hadn't had a bachelor party, more of a bachelor day. Natasha and Sam took him somewhere for the whole day, and he came back late evening, all excited and happy, telling Tony that he was bungee jumping, and played laser tag and completed a burger challenge at one of the diners. Tony listened to all of that with a smile, knowing that a a day with the guys was just what Steve needed. Tony had made sure that the following night would be as amazing as the day.

Tony smiled, feeling calmer already. He reached his hand to the night stand and took out from a drawer a velvet box. He opened it, looking at two rings, one smaller, other bigger. Their engagement rings were simple - plain band rings made from gold. Tony wanted something fancier as their wedding rings, but Steve wasn't set on fancy and wanted to stay with the same model as the engagement rings. The conversation was long and tedious, and in the end they settled with buying three pairs of wedding rings. First one - a two tone rings, with white gold being the dominant metal and yellow gold on the edges of the ring. It was the most expensive set, intended for all official parties, where they both had to present themselves elegant. The second pair looked like the first one, except for the material - they were made from white and black titanium, black titanium on the edges of the rings. It was the most sturdy and durable set, which Tony picked specially for Steve, for the times when he would be sent away for some missions, because he was more than sure that being a married man, won't stop Fury from sending Steve on SHIELD's mission, and Tony wanted Steve to wear a ring when away. Plus, he wouldn't risk sending his soldier with a fancy gold ring, not taking chances for someone trying to chop Steve's finger off to get the precious material. The last pair, the one they planned to use today, was their everyday pair - Tony let Steve decide on this one, and they were wide plain band rings, just like their engagements rings, only these were made from platinum. Tony was not overly happy about his wedding ring being so simple, and Steve asked if there could be a hidden diamond, positioned on the inside of the ring. That sounded better to Tony, and, even if it wasn't as flashy as he wanted, there was something subtle and sweet with a hidden diamond. All wedding rings were engraved on the inside with their wedding date and their initials. It took them days to chose the wedding rings, but overall were happy with their choices.

Tony caressed with his thumb the piece of jewelry. He still had his engagement ring as he and Steve decided that during the ceremony they would take them off to exchange them for the rings, they planned to wear till the rest of their lives.

Till the rest of their lives..

Till death takes them apart..

It wasn't an unpleasant thought, but made Tony's breath hitch. He carefully put the rings back into the nightstand and gently closed the drawer. Rubbing his face, Tony sat up, knowing that he became too nervous to sleep. If he went down to Rhodey right now and wake him up for company, would his best man kill him? Tony decided that probably yes, but he was the bride, he had a right to a moment of weakne-- groom, he was the groom!

Slowly, Tony stood up in the dark, fixing the band of pajama bottoms, which were a bit too loose and big, and the pant legs were dragged on the floor. No wonder, seeing that they were Steve's pants, as Tony developed a habit of sleeping in a piece of Steve's clothing when the soldier was away. Somehow it made him feel safer and calmer. He silently padded out from the bedroom, and walked through the dark living room, using his arc as a flashlight, eyes set on the elevator.

"Hey."

The quiet voice made Tony jump a foot high and again clutch on his arc, eyes darting around the room.

"Woah, sorry! Are you ok?"

Tony's eyes adjusted to the darkness and he spotted a person sitting on a couch. Blond hair shining in the moonlight, blue eyes, broad shoulders..

"Steve?!" Tony squeaked out.

"Yeah," he smiled lopsidedly.

"Dammit, Steve, you almost gave me an arc attack.." Tony whimpered, rubbing the piece of metal in his chest. He shot the soldier a puzzled look. "What are you doing here?" he asked, remembering that they agreed to spend the last night separately.

Steve shrugged. "Couldn't sleep without you."

"Then why you didn't come to bed?" Tony asked, slightly hurt, coming closer. He stood in front of his future husband, who was fully clothed, just as if he got down from his motorbike minutes ago.

"I don't know, tradition?" Steve laughed. He reached his hands for Tony and put them on his hips. "Are these my pants?" he laughed again.

Tony huffed, and not waiting for an invitation, slid himself into Steve's lap. The second Steve looped his hands around his waist and Tony rested his head under Steve's chin, the whole stress left him.

"You should have come to bed.." Tony muttered, finally back in his happy place.

Steve hummed, gently rubbing Tony's bare back, easing the tension the nightmare left in the genius.

Tony's eye lids started to grow heavier. But he didn't want to be the one falling to sleep first, not when Steve looked wide awake.

"Hey.." Tony swallowed, trying to keep the sleep out of his voice, "are you nervous for tomorrow?"

Steve thought for a while. He brushed Tony's hair with his lips. "Yeah, a bit," he admitted with a small laugh. "I'm not sure if I want to see only your crooked dick till the rest of my life."

Tony shocked out a laugh and lifted his head to glare halfheartedly at his soldier. "My dick is not crooked!"

Steve grinned. "It is. A little bit. It's like a banana," Steve teased further.

"Well, I'm sorry, not all of us can have perfectly straight dicks you could hoist a flag on," Tony grumbled playfully. Steve planted a kiss on his forehead, Then on his eyebrow. Then nose. Cheek. Lips..

Tony slightly opened his mouth, tasting Steve better and exploring soldier's mouth.

When it was getting hot and dizzy, Steve drew back.

"Save it for the wedding night," he winked, holding back a laugh at Tony's disappointed face.

"But.."

"Wedding night."

"Buuuut.."

Steve laughed and after another hot, biting kiss, leaned into the couch, pulling Tony to him. "We need to get some sleep."

Tony let out a long breath, knowing that Steve was right. He followed, cuddling into Steve's front and being wrapped in his warmth. The rest of the night was peaceful..

Tony woke up, feeling a delicate hand on his shoulder, shaking him awake. He moved his head up and blinked around sleepily.

Pepper smiled gently at him. "Time to get ready," she said in a whisper, not wanting to wake up Steve, who was still calmly sleeping.

Tony looked back at his soldier. At the person who in few hours would become his husband. "But.." he said, not wanting to be away from Steve. Not now.

"Tony, just a few hours apart, and then you will have Steve for the rest of your life," Pepper reminded calmly and sweetly, understanding how Tony felt.

After a while, Tony nodded and gently untangled himself from Steve's embrace. When he leaned down and kissed Steve, the soldier was still in a deep sleep. Tony walked to the elevator, following Pepper and they stopped on the floor where Rhodey was staying, where the groom preparation quarters were located.

Just a few hours..

Steve didn't have so much luck with being woken up gently - Natasha stepped out of the elevator and fired a blank gun into the ceiling, which made Steve fall to the floor in shock. Then she yelled out the time remaining to the wedding and stepped back to the elevator, wanting Steve to follow.

Steve grunted and lifted himself up, thinking that if Natasha tells you to stay in Brooklyn, you stay in Brooklyn.

Thankfully, the preparation process wasn't as awful as the wake up call.

Sooner than they knew it, the evening came, with a promise of something wonderful and a shared life.

Steve smoothened his hair, taking a last glance into the mirror. Tony was right, he looked good in Italian suits, with a pronounced V shape of the jacket and the material tight and fitting to the body. Just when he was supposed to get out from the bathroom, he saw a little sticky note on the sink. He took it and smiled at Tony's chaotic handwriting.

"See you soon, handsome. - T.S-R."

Steve laughed, not knowing how Tony snuck in here, but was happy that he did. He hid the note in the front pocket of his suit, behind the silk handkerchief and fixed the yellow Peruvian Lilly on his jacket, the symbol of devotion, and felt ready to take the most important step in his life.

"Steve, it's time."

Steve took a deep breath and turned around, looking at his best woman. Natasha was wearing a knee length dress with draping over the bust, in a deep cobalt blue color, that accented her red curls beautifully. The dress was hugging her frame nicely and had a transparent outer fabric, which swayed with every step she took.

Steve smiled. "Wow.. You look.." he settled with a whistle. There were not many occasions to see the Black Widow in garments like that.

Natasha smiled, bright and sweet. "Thanks, you don't look bad either," she teased friendly. "Come on, your husband is waiting," she urged Steve, hearing the first notes of the Wedding March.

Steve joined Natasha. He kept Tony waiting long enough.

This is 1 of 2 most IMPORTANT parts of the Stony Wedding series...(the 2nd is the final part...so much emotion in that one)
