"Sir wanted me to inform you, that he and Captain and their baby are on their way."

The cheer in Avengers' common room was overwhelming. The day Tony and Steve were bringing their adopted son home finally came. The last days in the Avengers' Tower were filled with preparations, baby proofing the floors (so what, that Peter was not able to lift his head yet, the floors needed to be safe, dammit!) The whole team was very supportive of their decision and of course, organized a baby welcome party, with streamers and presents and poster with a "congratulations, it's a boy!"

"You think they will like it?" Natasha asked, eyeing the huuuge poster in white and pastel blue colors.

Bruce shrugged, arranging the food on the table, consisting mostly of colorful cupcakes and all sorts of finger foods. "I think it's nice. Who said that such posters are only appropriate when you give birth to a child?" he smiled, moving a cupcake by a half of an inch, to create a perfect harmony between multi colored sweets.

"Damn it, Thor! What the hell is that?!" Clint yelped, eyes widening at the demi god as he entered the room, carrying an enormous package in his hands, wrapped in shiny gold paper.

"This, my friend," Thor answered, putting the package next to a table where the rest of the gifts was, much smaller, as inside were baby clothes or rattles, "is a gift for the fine warrior that Man of Iron and Captain's son will become," he announced proudly, putting the package down.

All present in the room, looked a bit terrified at the present. They knew that Thor had the best intentions, but his "gifts" were not always safe. Scratch that, they were Asgard safe. Not Midgard safe.

"Could you tell us exactly what it is?" Bruce asked cautiously, well knowing that if they would let something dangerous close to Steve and Tony's baby, both superheroes would never forgive them.

"It is what Midgardians call a rocking horse. The little one must train himself in the noble art of equestrianism!"

Everyone breathed in relief hearing the answer. Except for Natasha, who was alert as always.

"Where did you get it?" she asked, and everyone's attention was back on Thor. That was an important question.

"Why, here," Thor answered, getting bemused by all this questioning. "Lady Jane took me to the shop of toys and was kind enough to offer her help."

After this, everyone felt calm. If Jane was involved, it was 100% safe. She probably wanted to go with a more practical gift like the rest did, but Thor didn't do small gifts and had to always go big. That's why Tony had in his workshop a solid gold Iron Man statue, he had received from Thor one Christmas. Tony loved it, but somehow Steve didn't share his enthusiasm and didn't agree to the suggestion that it should be proudly displayed in their living room.

The team renewed the preparations, and Bruce took it on himself, gently explaining to Thor, that the baby would need a couple of years more before using the rocking horse for the first time, when they heard some munching.

"Hey, it looks great, guys!" Tony smiled, between bites of the cupcake, blue icing coloring his lips, looking around the room. He stopped his hand midway to his mouth, noticing the expectant looks and the tensed atmosphere. "What?"

"Didn't you forget about something?" Natasha hissed.

Tony grinned. "Steve sent me up first, so I would examine if it is safe."

"So, is it safe?" Clint asked.

"I don't know, these cupcakes look awfully dangerous.." Tony answered thoughtfully, quickly finishing the first one, and reaching his hand for the second one.

"Leave it, Tony."

Everyone let out a muffled gasp (expect Tony with a mouth full of icing), when Steve stepped out of the elevator, holding in his hand a little bundle, wrapped in a cream baby blanket.

Steve smiled brightly, feeling everyone's eyes on him, knowing that it was a special moment. “Everyone, this is Peter, mine and Tony's son,” he said, gently moving the blanket a bit to show the face of the sleeping baby.

With a shuddered breath, the team moved closer, circling Steve and looking at the baby, sleeping peacefully in his new father's arms.

Everyone awed at the little perfection, but Bruce was first to ask the question, everyone wanted to ask, but feared the answer. "Can I..?" he asked, reaching his hands for the baby.

Steve smiled, "sure, just mind his head," he passed the baby to Bruce.

Bruce took the little bundle, looking down with emotions at it. The baby was tiny, and had a perky nose and a tuft of brown hair on top of his head. Bruce, being a doctor, already saw that the baby had long fingers, attached to chubby hands, indicating that he would become a tall boy in the future.

"Now me, now me!" Clint chirped impatiently, wanting to hold the baby, and Steve nodded, all team members passing the baby to each other.

Tony gulped down his cupcake and walked over to Steve, wrapping an arm around his husband's waist. Everyone could see that Tony was beaming with pride, just like a proud father, while Steve had this motherly aura around him, utterly in love with the baby, ready to protect it with his own life.

"Did you decide who will be the godfather?" Clint asked as soon as the baby left his arms and was passed to Thor, who was surprisingly gentle with it and amazed the whole team by holding the baby like if he was made for it.

"Clint," Natasha scolded in a hushed voice, not wanting to disturb the baby.

"We did," Tony confirmed in a cheerful tone. The whole team tensed again. Choosing the godfather was a hot topic among the rest of the Avengers. The most obvious choices were Bruce or Rhodey, as they were Tony's best friends, but they also were his best men at his and Steve's wedding. They had a feeling that Tony would choose someone else, who didn't take part in the ceremony. Natasha and Sam were Steve's best men. That left Pepper, Thor and Clint. Most of the votes were on Pepper.

"We decided that.. Nat!" Steve laughed, noticing the spy walking out from the living room, holding Peter close to her, muttering something about "what a cute baby" and "mine". Natasha grumbled at being caught, and came back, handing the baby back to Steve. The brief worried look on Tony's face didn't slip past her, and she grinned wide and predatory at the Iron Man, who apparently was scared to hold his own son. Tony only narrowed his eyes, not getting into this conversation with her.

Steve cooed to the baby, gently rocking him, as if to let Peter know, that he was back in his papa's arms. "Me and Tony decided that we want Clint to be Peter's godfather."

A surprised "what?!" rang from the team, Clint's the loudest, and Steve had to rock the baby and coo to lull Peter back into sleep, who started to wake up at the noise.

"Why me?" Clint asked, widening his eyes in surprise. Because, seriously, why him? He knew nothing about babies. He was like a baby himself, pulling pranks on the rest of the team, or playing scary games, and then forcing Natasha to look under the bed for monsters, before they went to sleep. "I beat Thor and Pepper?!" he raised his voice excitedly, and Natasha dropped the stealth mode, and knocked the archer on the head, quieting him.

"What do you mean you beat Thor and Pepper? That was no contest," Steve raised an eyebrow, while Tony burst into short laughter at Clint taking a hit from the Black Widow. "Of course, you are all Peter's uncles and aunts," Steve offered quickly, seeing the sad puppy look on Thor's face and the way Clint stuck his tongue out at the demi god, "Clint, for God's sake.." Steve whined, thinking that maybe they can still change their minds.

Clint quickly hid his tongue, not only because of Steve, but also because of the disapproving look Bruce was sending him. "I'll be good, don't take him away from me," he amended quickly.

Tony laughed again. "That's why we chose you," Tony grinned.

Clint asked "what do you mean?", in the same time when Steve hissed "Tony," in a warning tone.

"Huh? What? I said nothing," Tony widened his eyes, mirroring the same surprised expression on Clint's face.

Clint tightened his jaws. Figures, he should know that they chose him for a reason. "You mean that you want me to be the godfather, because I'm in a relationship with Bruce and Natasha?!" he asked with a grudge. Of course, it was the perfect choice - Natasha was stern and would teach the kid discipline, Bruce was smart, incredibly smart and Clint was.. well, he was Clint. A goofball.

Steve blushed and tried to say something, but Tony interrupted him.

"That's exactly why," he nodded.

Clint glowered. Well, that was humiliating. Then he looked at the sleeping baby. At the cute, sleeping baby.

"I'll take it," he decided, looking back at Tony, as deciding about some dangerous mission  he would take alone. Tony grinned. Steve whined, muttering something about them all taking the godparents topic in a twisted way.

Then Peter decided that it was high time to accent his presence. He sniffled, opening eyes and whimpering.

"Ah, Peter, shh.." Steve soothed, looking down at his nearly crying son. "He needs to be changed.. Tony!"

Tony made an utterly terrified face. "Why me?!" he squeaked out.

Steve shot him an irritated look. "I just wanted you to bring me the diapers," he remarked.

Tony visibly breathed in relief and made a move to fetch the bag, but Clint was faster. "I'll do it!" he volunteered. "Because I'm the godfather," he announced proudly, running for the bag.

"Okay, but one day you will have to learn how to change diapers," Steve said sternly to Tony and Tony scrunched his nose, indicating that he begged to differ. "Thanks, Clint," he took the bag from the over excited archer and they both went on a side, Clint eager to learn the magic how to silence the baby with a clean diaper.

"Well, seeing that you both ladies are busy," Tony grinned, referring to Steve and Clint, "me and the boys have some celebrating to do," he wrapped arms around Natasha's and Thor's  neck, which was rather hilarious looking thanks to the height difference. He nodded at Bruce, giving him a sign to follow, as he began to walk out of the room.

"Where are you going?" Steve asked.

"I just became a father, I have a right to a good cigar and some scotch," Tony answered as it should be obvious. Steve rolled his eyes, focusing on the more important thing - meaning, diaper changing.

"Do you want me to drag him back here?" Clint asked with a grin, taking how godfather duties seriously, even if they included hauling Tony back.

"Nah, let him go. It's your last cigar, Tony!" Steve called, making Tony stop.

"What?!" he cried in protest.

"You heard me. I don't want you to die because of lung cancer before Peter's prom," Steve shot his husband a meaningful look. He'd been trying to vanquish Tony's cigar smoking habit for a long time, and hoped that now he would have additional motivation to break it.

Tony eyed Steve back. "Fine. Then I'm gonna make this one count," he grinned, walking into the elevator with 2/3 of the team. "Love you!"

"Love you too," Steve replied, guiding Clint by the process of diaper changing, step by step.

Tony didn't get back till late night. When morning Steve woke up and found Tony sleeping on the couch, drooling into cushions and a tie around his head, like a bandana, he took a moment to look at his sleeping husband. He gently took Tony in his arms and carried him to their bedroom, putting him in bed and kissing his forehead.

"Don't worry, you will be a great father," he whispered soothingly to the sleeping man. Tony was out as a light, not acknowledging anything, only wrinkled his nose funnily. Smiling to himself, Steve walked out of the bedroom, just in time as Peter started to wake up, letting out piercing cries at the top of his lungs.

Steve heard Tony shifting in the bed. "TURN IT OFF!!" he called, groggily, his head pounding enough already.

Steve laughed slightly, walking to Peter's room to calm down his son. Yup, Tony will be an excellent father.
