The Stony Wedding - 1st Anniversary

"I don't know about this, Steve.."

"It's gonna be fine, babe."

Tony scoffed. He begged to differ. "Fine," he mimicked in a mock, making his voice a bit high pitched, just for a bit extra mock, "you always say that it will be fine, and then it turns the opposite!"

"Is this still about your check up at the dentist?" Steve turned around from the kitchen counter, raising an eyebrow at the other man. "How was I supposed to know that one of your wisdom teeth had to be removed?"

Tony pouted at the memory. It was a horrible day for Iron Man. "I'm pretty sure you knew, and set me up," he seethed.

Steve rolled his eyes, and turned back to the counter, a small smile playing on his lips. "At least your headaches stopped," he chirped, listening to Tony's groan and carefully unwrapped the small bundle from silver tinfoil. "Can you believe it is already a year?" he asked, his voice having a soft note.

With a calmer breath, Tony looked down at the table, at his hand resting against the wood, and on the silver wedding ring on his finger. Actually, it was hard for him to believe that. They had been married for a full year. When did the time flow away? Granted, it wasn't like that, that their lives changed tremendously. Tony still had his company, Steve had SHIELD stuff, both had super hero business.. Just the warm, fuzzy feeling Tony had each time he looked at his wedding rings, or saw a glimpse of it on Steve's hand, was new.

"There!" Steve announced proudly, disregarding last pieces of tinfoil. He turned to Tony and with a wide smile, put in front of him a cake a on a white plate. Not just any cake. It was a large, round cake, suitable to feed twelve people, but was only for them. It was covered with cream yellow icing, a stripe of lilac fondant on the bottom and with airbrushed decorations. Simple, yet elegant.

"Oh wow.." Tony couldn't stop himself. "It looks just like back then.." he murmured, gaping at the top tier of their wedding cake - the one they decided to freeze and share again on their first anniversary.

"Yeah, ice preserved it well," Steve beamed.

Tony shot his husband an incredulous look, not believing he had just said that. "Oh, I know some other thing, that ice had preserved well," he purred playfully.

Steve laughed, his smile not faltering. "You remember how a year ago I smashed a piece of cake in your face when I gave you the first bite? Don't make me repeat that," he answered brightly, going to the counter to take a knife and spoons.

The memory made Tony laugh. But it wasn't this cake Tony's face got rubbed in with. "Too bad we didn't save a piece of the superhero themed one.." Tony smiled, remembering their other cake, the one he had ordered in secret from Steve, decorated with Captain America and Iron Man's motives.

"That cake was a big hit," Steve laughed, remembering that it was eaten faster, than their original wedding cake. "But I managed to save this," he turned back to Tony, holding spoons and a knife in one hand, the other one holding something colorful. He put it on the top of the cake, and Tony let out a shocked laugh, looking at the Iron Man and Captain America wedding toppers, the exact ones they had on the superhero cake.

"That's amazing!" Tony cheered, smiling brightly at his husband. He couldn't believe how thoughtful Steve was. No wonder he felt more and more in love with him each day.

With a smile, Steve sat down, opposite to Tony, so they could look at each other and having the cake in between. "You think it got defrosted enough?"

"There is only one way we can find out," Tony grinned excitedly. Steve nodded and slowly started to cut a piece, careful to not knock down the toppers. He put it on the previously prepared plate, and they both just took a minute to look at it. It looked just like they had remembered it. Moist lemon cake and creamy pistachio flavored. When they had tasted it for the first time, they fell in love with the flavors. Wondering if it would be the same now, both took spoons and scooped some cake, ready to feed each other.

"Happy Anniversary, Tony," Steve said, for once not using any pet names, but with so much love and affection, that Tony couldn't wish for more.

"Happy Anniversary," Tony repeated, feeling the same cheerful excitement he had felt during their wedding. One of the many anniversaries that were ahead of them.. The spoons came closer and brushing their elbows, they shared the cake.

"CAAAKEEE!!! OW!!"

Steve's eyes widened and Tony bit the spoon out of surprise at the sudden scream.

"Idiot," came a hiss and they both looked to the door, seeing their team, plus Pepper, Rhodey and Sam, crowding in the threshold, looking at them with bright smiles and holding small packages decorated with white paper, silver ribbons and white organza, undoubtedly their anniversary gifts.

The hiss came from Natasha, who had slapped Clint in the back of his head. "We were supposed to say 'Happy Anniversary'!" she continued to hiss.

"But Tasha, cake!" Clint explained himself, as it should be a valid excuse.

"Sorry guys, couldn't keep them out any longer," Rhodey explained with a sorry smile.

Tony rolled his eyes dramatically, even if he was secretly moved to have the whole team remember. Steve reacted totally differently and stood up, urging everyone to come into the kitchen, and asking Tony to help him get more plates, beaming an honest smile at their friends.

It was crowded, cheerful and loud and there was plenty of cake for everyone.
